Memory Matters has been on the Island for 27 years. It was started at St. Lukes as a respite. Today they provide: Memory Care Day Program; Memory Enhancing Day Classes; Care planning, family in crisis; FREE Support Groups; FREE Memory screening; Caregiver SAVVY Classes, three or six week classes; Brain Boosters Classes, what you can do to maintain brain health; Dementia Sensitivity Training - how to recognize someone who has dementia and how to communicate. There are more than 120 types of dementia, Alzheimer's is just one that accounts for 60-80% of dementia cases. Multitasking is not good for the brain - take on a single task at a time - the brain is calmer. What you can do now for brain health: Exercise, Healthy eating (Mediterranean Lifestyle), Lifelong Learning, Socialization, Restfulness (cool your brain 20 minutes a day). Memory Matters is located on the North end of the Island across from the Crazy Crab. Just opened an office in Bluffton. Justice works at Memory Matters - it is hard work allowing everyone to pet him. He did a great job at our meeting too.
