Our own Sonny Huntley updated us on the Community Center Project.  This project was started 5 years ago with the idea that a community Center would be built on the property of the park at Port Royal.  The Town of Hilton Head has indicated that there is not sufficient support within town council to commit funding for a community center at this time.  The projected costs of the park have ballooned since the master plan was approved and there are other capital projects that are a higher priority right now. There have been other options of location (like Honey Horn) that have been considered.  The committee will move forward and seek an appropriate location/solution.

14th Circuit Solicitor, Duffie Stone presented interesting information about the Solicitor's office.  20% of the “actors” cause 80% of the actions.  It is not a crime problem - it is a criminal problem. He told what makes this solicitor's office different from the norm.  There is a three month program to train the prosecutors. At the end, they have a mock trial with mock jury. Volunteers can serve on the jury - it takes a day. This training is similar to a “teaching hospital” for the criminal justice system.  The fact that everything is at one location is also unique - the only one in South Caroline -they can do forensic exams & interviews at the same location (Family Justice Center).  Community partners with the 14dthf Circuit Solicitor's office are Lowcountry legal Volunteers, Hopeful Horizons, Lowcountry Alliance for Healthy Youth, Child Abuse Prevention Association.  For more information    scsolicitor14.org
